State of Minnesota
Dear Fellow Conservative,
Pete Nelson is currently seeking your vote for Minnesota Republican Party Deputy Chair. As you likely know, Pete served in the Legislature two terms as the State Rep. serving Chisago County. I served in the Legislature that same time and had first-hand experience working with him legislatively and locally as a GOP BPOU volunteer.
Prior to his election to the Legislature, and in the years following, Pete has volunteered countless hours for the local BPOU and GOP candidates. He has been instrumental each year in planning and pulling off one of the best BPOU Reagan Day Dinner fundraisers in the state. Each year hundreds attend, and thousands of dollars raised to elect Republican candidates to office.
During his tenure as a Legislator Pete doggedly pursued conservative causes. It was during his years in the Minnesota House of Representatives that we passed
- Concealed Carry Reform
- Pro-Life Woman’s Right to Know, and Positive Alternatives legislation
- Strengthened Personal Property Rights with Eminent Domain limitations
These and many other accomplishments were made during his time as Representative.
Pete has a deep commitment to our Republican Party, our Republican Ideals, our Conservative Candidates and our local BPOU organizations. He has volunteered countless hours for our GOP party and GOP candidates. He would make a wonderful Deputy Chair for our State Party organization.
Sincerely,
Sean Nienow

"Rep. Barrett Supports"

"Rep. Barrett Supports"

Dear Delegates,

Pete Nelson is the man we need as Deputy Chair because he is a seasoned coach and mentor for candidates and will roll up his sleeves and train their campaign committees as well.

It’s all about winning and
Pete has a winning formula. I know, because Pete was instrumental in my ability to win and has been a source of wisdom as a former legislator. What our state party needs is more Pete Nelsons to pass around. We can’t just duplicate him but what we can do is put him in a position to work with all of our state BPOUs, grass roots organizations and their candidates! The Minnesota GOP Deputy Chair position is the perfect way for the entire state to benefit from Pete’s knowledge and expertise.

I entered the political scene because our district needed to win after two terms of liberal representation. It was because of his reorganization within our BPOU that I first got involved following the February Caucus. I consulted with Pete about my interest but recognized that I was new to local politics. From there he helped me to recruit my campaign committee, he conducted a "how to" campaign school and gave our team constant help and direction throughout the campaign. With Pete Nelson’s direction, our district turned a 7 point loss in November, 2008 to an 18 point win just two years later. This 25 point election swing was the 2nd largest in the entire state.

Pete is a big reason I went from being private citizen Bob Barrett, to being Representative Bob Barrett. Now, as a legislator, Pete Nelson is still someone I can call on at any time for direction and support. If Pete Nelson can take a candidate and campaign committee and turn them into a winning team, he can do that for our GOP candidates all over the state.

You may have heard the statement “I’m not really a good cook, I just use good recipes.” Well, Pete Nelson has the recipe we need in order to win BIG in the state of Minnesota!

Sincerely,
Representative Bob Barrett
District 17B

"Dignity & Integrity"

I have know Peter Nelson for the past three years. Peter has been a pleasure to work with, as part of the Chisago County Republican Party, bringing his attention to detail to every project and event he was involved with. His communication and people skills are excellent, and he has some very innovative ideas.
I can highly recommend him for the opportunity that he is seeking as Deputy Chair of the Minnesota Republican Party. It is the very type of position that Peter is well suited for and to accept the challenges it provides. Peter is a talented and eloquent speaker, his leadership qualities and ability to move people to action are second to none. As the Candidate Recruitment Chairman for the Chisago County Republican Party Peter worked with my committee in great depth helping to make a dramatic impact on helping conservative candidates get elected in the last 2010 elections.  His ability to aid in vetting candidates along with holding candidate workshops to train and develop others to run successful campaigns was valuable and a made a considerable impact in those candidates winning in their elections. The position Peter will not only excel at the Deputy Chair position, but he will hold the office with dignity and integrity as no other. Should you have any other questions feel free to contact me directly.

"Distinguished"

Dear Friends and Delegates,
You are trying to determine which Deputy Chair candidate to vote for. You want to elect someone who is respected by party leaders, who can work with party leaders, but who is not there to rubber stamp the status quo. You want the rare individual who can represent the base and still be an effective part of the state party team. You want a Deputy Chair who has a good rapport with current and former legislators, Constitutional Officers and our Congressional delegation. Most importantly, you want someone who has the type of leadership style that people thrive under. Former Representative Pete Nelson is that person.
When I first met Pete, I was serving my community as the volunteer Park Chair and he was my Mayor. He did for me what he has done for so many – he identified my skills and passion level, and began to mentor me. As a result of my eventual success, I was employed by the city as their Park Director. He helped me to identify others whose skills would fit into my plans and enabled us to recruit volunteers, fund-raise and better the community without raising taxes. We thrived under his mentoring and leadership and the community became the recipient of our labors.
I was later elected to City Council and also served my own district as Legislative Assistant to Senator Sean Nienow. Today, I am the Vice President of an International organization lobbying for a food freedom issue that has far-reaching implications into the health of our current and future generations. NONE of this would have been possible without the steady leadership of Pete Nelson, my mentor.
I can attest to his tireless pursuit to promote conservative candidates locally and wherever he has been asked. I have seen him travel great distances to help in other campaigns across the state. That is why I know this position will be a natural fit for him. Countless others across the state could benefit from his tutelage, wisdom and experience. This next election we need to increase our majority in the Mn House and Senate. As Deputy Chair, Pete can help every BPOU to be organized in such a manner that following the February Caucus, they can have the ability to fund, source and support winning candidates!
Pete Nelson is a man who is distinguished by hundreds of awards that are a tribute to his character. You can trust that he will make a difference and bring needed change, and in a manner you can be proud of.
Sincerely,
Stacy Pearson

Thanksgiving Proclamation of 1789
President George Washington
WHEREAS it is the duty of all nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey His will, to be grateful for His benefits, and humbly to implore His protection and favor; and Whereas both Houses of Congress have, by their joint committee, requested me “to recommend to the people of the United States a DAY OF PUBLIC THANKSGIVING and PRAYER, to be observed by acknowledging with grateful hearts the many and signal favors of Almighty God, especially by affording them an opportunity peaceably to establish a form of government for their safety and happiness:”
NOW THEREFORE, I do recommend and assign THURSDAY, the TWENTY-SIXTH DAY of NOVEMBER next, to be devoted by the people of these States to the service of that great and glorious Being who is the beneficent author of all the good that was, that is, or that will be; that we may then all unite in rendering unto Him our sincere and humble thanks for His kind care and protection of the people of this country previous to their becoming a nation; for the signal and manifold mercies and the favorable interpositions of His providence in the course and conclusion of the late war; for the great degree of tranquility, union, and plenty which we have since enjoyed;– for the peaceable and rational manner in which we have been enable to establish Constitutions of government for our safety and happiness, and particularly the national one now lately instituted;– for the civil and religious liberty with which we are blessed, and the means we have of acquiring and diffusing useful knowledge;– and, in general, for all the great and various favors which He has been pleased to confer upon us.
And also, that we may then unite in most humbly offering our prayers and supplications to the great Lord and Ruler of Nations and beseech Him to pardon our national and other transgressions; — to enable us all, whether in public or private stations, to perform our several and relative duties properly and punctually; to render our National Government a blessing to all the people by constantly being a Government of wise, just, and constitutional laws, discreetly and faithfully executed and obeyed; to protect and guide all sovereigns and nations (especially such as have shown kindness unto us); and to bless them with good governments, peace, and concord; to promote the knowledge and practice of true religion and virtue, and the increase of science among them and us; and, generally to grant unto all mankind such a degree of temporal prosperity as he alone knows to be best.
GIVEN under my hand, at the city of New York, the third day of October, in the year of our Lord, one thousand seven hundred and eighty-nine.

A Vision with a Powerful PR Message and Legislative Strategy

I have known Peter Nelson a long time and of his leadership and attention to detail.
Pete has long been a leader, but I have been lucky enough to work with him and others the last five
years in a very close and collaborative way, building a politically active team in Chisago County.

Five years ago Pete, as a Republican, student of history and a businessman, knew it was time to turn and pivot politically and he concluded that new approaches needed to be tried to build our Republican Party.
Pete used his leadership skills to identify our local political activism structural problems and start to build and organize a unified team approach. He developed operational structures, such as changes in our constitution, campaign coordination and six standing committees of the county party, that have opened up more doors for involving more Chisago County residents in the Local Republican Party.

Since this process started, Peter has played a major role leading our Ex Committee and working side by side with others on our committees, as we have restructured not only our local operating constitution, but also many other operating procedures.  Pete has spent considerable time on events, fundraising and recruiting and training candidates how to run for local offices.

Pete has encouraged a balance of new volunteers with experienced volunteers on our operating committees and has the patience to let them develop their plans and activities as he offered assistance as needed. Bringing in new energy to the local party has been fundamentally important to our efforts. What we have accomplished recently in Chisago County is nothing short of a complete turnaround, with involvement that any area in the state would be happy to have.

I believe Pete, having been a State Rep, has much to offer to the state at large and has been in the middle of
a local metamorphosis  which he has had a firsthand part in. He demonstrates a vision on how to carry this message of building volunteer activism that can change local politics from the bottom up everywhere in the state.

With the MN GOP organizing around a powerful PR message and a legislative strategy that
is coordinated with our elected officials and an expanded base of activism, Minnesota will have a different political future from the past.

Pete Nelson can help deliver on that future vision.

"Vision to Broaden Base"

11-16-2011

Dear Pete,

Now that our caucus and convention planning are in full swing and I see the participation from all corners of Chisago County, I reflect that it wasn't always this way. We have gone from a handful of volunteers completing required functions to a BPOU organization that is locked and loaded for the upcoming election cycle. We have our incumbents running for Minnesota House, Senate and Congress. We are capable as any in Minnesota - and the DFL knows it.

Your contribution to our success has been pivotal. Your candidacy in 2002 showed us that with proper focus a well run campaign could be successful in Chisago County even though we had gone three decades without an election success. By chairing the Constitution Committee your vision of a broad-based delegation of duties has brought the Republican energy we so sorely needed. Your leadership as a delegate to the Eighth District State Convention and State Central has shown the leadership that attracts Republican activism.

Your fingerprints are on every corner of our organization, we would not be in this position without you
.  I appreciate your friendship and the mentorship of our BPOU.

Sincerely,

James Stein
Chisago County Republican Chairman
